I love hiking in sandals with warm wool socks in the winter (if dry). My feet feel warm and cozy and free. And your other idea isn’t stupid if it worked! Seems practical enough to me!

Thank you. The underbrush dies back quickly as soon as the temps drop, the density of the canopy also makes a lot of difference. I met a snake on the trail in December, so I'm realizing I need to watch out for them whenever the temps pick up a bit. The lack of bugs (and heat) makes winter and early spring my favorite times to get out!

We've been busy, but I still get out as often as I can. I just bought some new shoes and a different hammock, so I'd better get out!

wonderful photos. How is it that there's little or no underbrush in some of your areas?
Winter is a good time, no ticks and chiggers and snakes to deal with.

I've also noticed that a lot of the glades have become less open over the past ten years. I've visited Rock Spring in the last couple of years, and it was still flowing.

I first found it (without a guide) by realizing that most of the springs are on the same contour level, just around 1,000ft — that insight has helped me find more springs! If you have a GPS, here are the coordinates: 36.68924, -92.94113, and here's a map: https://www.gaiagps.com/public/cQVA2sg5jJXR5JU1SJaKPCTt/

Love this. I've hiked that area maybe 20+ times since 1978 – not to brag but to show how much I love it. I saw that spring sometime about then. I was there last month and tried to find it but gave up fighting the cedars where there used to be a beautiful open meadow (no doubt cleared). Keep up the good work.

I have had a similar experience with MSR. Their customer service has taken 7 weeks to respond to an inquiry but they finally got back to me. MSR should be ashamed considering the supposed quality of their company.
