Terms and Conditions

Really we shouldn’t have to say this but if we don’t some simple soul will probably have a hissy fit and get all litigious. It also helps our legal advisers sleep at night.

So here goes…

If you want to use our website, then you must agree to abide by the following terms and conditions. If you don’t like them you are free to visit other web sites providing similar services.

Ozarkswalkabout.com provides information, advice, commentary, maps and links about outdoors activities in the Ozarks, including but not limited to hiking, backpacking, kayaking and camping. By providing this information, we do not assume any liability for your use of this information. Outdoors activities have potential hazards involving risk of injury or death, and each person participating in these activities needs to understand the risks involved, obtain the necessary training and take the needed precautions.

In using this site, you recognize this, assume all risks of property damage, personal injury and death, and agree to hold Ozarks Walkabout harmless from any liability as a result of your use of the information provided in these pages.

In plain English: you are responsible for your own safety. This requires that you:

  • be fully prepared for any contingencies,
  • are in good enough physical condition for the activity being undertaken,
  • pay attention to where you’re going,
  • check the weather forecast,
  • carry the correct equipment and supplies for the conditions you will encounter.

The following is an accepted list of Ten Essentials for outdoors activities.

  1. Navigation – a map and compass, do not rely solely on electronics
  2. Sun protection – suitable clothing sunglasses and sunscreen
  3. Insulation – season appropriate additional clothing
  4. Light – headlamp or flashlight
  5. First-aid supplies
  6. Fire – fire starter and matches or lighter
  7. Repair kit and tools – including a knife
  8. Nutrition – extra food
  9. Hydration – extra water
  10. Emergency shelter.

If you are going out on the water you should also ensure that you can swim, have an adequate personal flotation device, and protective equipment if you are venturing into white or rough water.

Affiliate Disclosure

Some links on this website may be affiliate links. That means if you click on them and make a purchase, Ozarks Walkabout may be paid a small commission. The affiliate relationship does not increase the price of your purchase. We only use affiliate links when we have a reasonable belief (based on our research and or experience) that a product or service may be of value to visitors to this website. However, you must still make your own assessment as to the value and utility of any products or services offered. We normally disclose affiliate relationships in the same post or on the same page as the affiliate link appears. This may take the form of the word “affiliate link” near the link in question, sometimes it may take the form of a disclosure applied to the entire post or page.

In plain English: Normally we don’t get paid to review gear or places. If we do, we’ll tell you.

We do get paid for items bought from our Amazon Stores. Go and buy something! It helps pay for the cost of maintaining and updating this site.

Feedback and Supplied Materials

Except where expressly provided otherwise by Ozarks Walkabout, all comments, feedback, information or materials submitted to Ozarks Walkabout through or in association with this Web site shall be considered non-confidential and the property of Ozarks Walkabout. By submitting such comments, feedback, information or materials to us, you agree to a free of charge assignment to us of all world-wide rights, title and interest in copyrights and other intellectual property rights to the comments, feedback, information or materials. We shall be free to use such comments, feedback, information or materials on an unrestricted basis.

In plain English: we want to be able to use any material you provide to us in our website and elsewhere without having to contact you first and without fear of your trying to charge us for using something you have already freely given to us.

Comments & Feedback Policy

We welcome and encourage your comments and feedback. If you decide to join the conversation and contribute your thoughts, here’s a few things to consider.

If your comment has a question we will reply as quickly as possible, bear in mind we spend a lot of time out and about gathering information and enjoying the Ozarks! We may not necessarily know the answer to your question, but we may be able to point you in the direction of someone who does. Time constraints may mean that we can’t answer you in as much detail as we’d like to, or we may hold over the topic for an upcoming article.

Disrespectful and overly critical comments are not acceptable. Period. Disagreement and differing view points are fine. They are part of life, and life would be very boring if we all thought the same way. Feel free to discuss and disagree, but be respectful. Life’s hard enough as it is – let’s keep things pleasant. This is a ‘no troll’ zone.

Be careful to only talk for yourself – don’t tell us what you think other posters are thinking – let them tell us themselves.

In plain English: be nice. It’s that simple.
